The latest spot to hit Phuket town’s cafe scene is the small yet refined Our Nomad.

Located within a white, four-story shop-house beneath a hostel of the same name, the cafe comes with rustic brushed concrete walls and a soft, neutral color palette. Comfy diner booths, a curved counter area, arched mirrors and small Chinese round table sets combine for an elegant modern-vintage feel.

The kitchen specializes in traditional Hokkien and Phuket classics, such as braised barbecue ribs on a bed of rice (B160), fried pork buns (B35), yellow crab curry with fermented rice noodles (B140) and braised pork belly with mantou (B140), leaving experimentation to creative drinks like the yuzu aeropress tonic (B110) and plum soda served with a small syrup pump (B80).

When night falls, the space turns dim and red neon lights create an atmosphere conducive to drinking. The bar serves up exciting cocktails like the Drunken Master (B280), which combines Chalong Bay rum, gin, beer, sprite and lime in a rustic Chinese jar, as well as various bottled beer (from B180), such as Young Master 1842, Mikkeller and Tsingtao.

The small hostel upstairs comes in pastel shades with stylish Art Deco flourishes like pill-shaped mirrors and orb lighting. Private rooms start at B1,000.

183/73-183/74 Phang Nga Rd, 080-905-9962. Open Thu-Tue 10am-midnight.
