Travel site TripAdvisor has just announced the winners of its Travellers' Choice Awards 2014—and surprisingly, Beijing has dethroned perennial favorite Bangkok to emerge as this year's top Asian destination. 

In second place is Hanoi (which climbed a whopping 12 spots), followed by Siem Reap, while Shanghai and Bangkok round up the top five. Elsewhere, Istanbul secured top spot in the World Destinations poll. 

Rankings are based on millions of reviews from TripAdvisor travellers over a 12-month period. View the complete list of winners here.
