In honor of America's National Doughnut Day, here's our two cents on six of Bangkok's favorite chains.

Dunkin' Donuts
The buzz: Available in Thailand since time immemorial (or at least as long as we can remember), the familiar pink-and-orange brand is still as popular as ever. It's also running a promo right now: one free doughnut for every drink purchase.
The taste: The dough is a bit firmer than Krispy Kreme but the glaze also makes a nice crust. Considering the number of branches, these fellas make a good substitute when there are no KK outlets in sight.

Mister Donut
The Buzz: Another longhauler selling pocket-friendly goodies for as low at B10 in just about every neighborhood in town. For Doughnut Day, it's running a 100,000 pon-de-ring giveaway starting from noon at every branch except Siam Paragon and Savarnabhumi Airport.
The taste: Tastes cheap; is cheap. We're not going to stop buying them anytime soon.
Big Apple
The Buzz: Debuted in Thailand as Bapple Donuts and Coffee, this Malaysian franchise then changed its name and shop face. The new-look Big Apple n More also offers a range of cafe treats like pancakes and crepes.
The Taste: The doughnuts have been given a revamp from the original oversized softies. They're now smaller and denser, made from zero-egg dough (B29 each). We say: bring back the egg!

Krispy Kreme
The buzz: This hyped doughnut chain from the USA made a big stir when it first landed in Bangkok. The queues are gone, but the doughnuts are still one of our favorites.
The Taste: The light and airy dough makes Krispy Kreme's original glazed doughnuts (B27) a reputation-deserving triumph—even despite the super-sweet glaze.

Sublime Doughnuts
Buzz: This American franchise from Atlanta, Georgia made a humble debut in Bangkok a few years ago in Siam Square. Now in its new home in Fortune Town, Sublime Doughnuts boasts it makes a more "homemade" style of doughnut.
The Taste: Like moths to the flame, we couldn't help but go for the bright yellow star-shaped doughnut. Bad decision. The icing tastes like the gooey bits around the top of lemon cordial bottles. But the dough is a different matter: not too airy, not too oily. The red velvet and orange cream cheese flavors are also quite tasty.

Daddy Dough
The Buzz: Named like a character from the darkest corners of the internet, this Thai doughnut brand claims it has a zero-gram trans fat receipe.
The Taste: So long as you're not after that crusty icing glaze, Daddy Dough's offerings (B28) are quite satisfying. The icing is shiny, runny and creamy, and there are plenty of options, all at the same price.
