Even though James Bond prefers his martinis “shaken, not stirred,” we know better. You want your cocktail to be drinkable, but you don’t want to water down the flavor of the world’s best tasting vodka. Shaking your martini actually melts the ice too quickly, which dilutes the drink. Research suggests that the famous spy was possibly trying to stay more sober by diluting his cocktails to complete his missions.

A shaken martini becomes cloudy and hazy. Great mixologists know to always stir drinks made all from spirits, including other classics like the Manhattan, Rob Roy and negroni. The drink should be stirred for no more than 30-45 seconds, allowing the ice cubes to stay intact. With Grey Goose’s premium distilled spirits and lighter ingredients, you can rest assured of an always-smooth and silky martini.

Want to play the perfect host at your next party? Then pour a good martini. Classic drinks like these are loved by everyone and can be made into signature variations. Here’s what you need to know to create that perfect Dry Martini, as explained by the Grey Goose Guide for Extraordinary Hosts:

  • 2 ½ parts Grey Goose Vodka
  • ½ part chilled Noilly Prat
  • Original French Dry Vermouth
  • 1 dash of orange bitters
  • Lemon zest for garnish

DIY:

Mix all the ingredients in a Boston glass, add some cubed ice and stir gently. Strain into a chilled martini cocktail glass (the perfect size is 4 ½ oz., not the typical 6-8 oz.) and garnish with lemon zest. All components used should be chilled, including the Grey Goose vodka, the martini cocktail glass and the mixing glass.
