The East is getting a dose of sporty caffeinated chicness with the opening of home-grown bike shop/cafe/general cool-people hangout Coast Cycles in Siglap.

The 3,000 sq. ft. space is all exposed ceilings, blond wood and concrete (of course). There is a cafe and repair shop on the first floor and a retail space on the second floor, where you can ask embarrassing newbie questions and take bikes out for test drives around the neighborhood (or just on the rolling trainer, like a chump). If you like, you can go home with the shop's very own signature model, the fuss-free, humidity-friendly Coastliner ($2,800).

Initiated by former professional cyclist Jansen Tan, Coast Cycles has an impressive all-local line-up of collaborators. The coffee is coming from roasting moguls Papa Palheta, indie-fusion cafe fare like rendang hot dogs and bak kwa mixed salad from now-defunct but once-beloved Wild Rocket's Willin Low and playlists by Darker than wax's Dean Chew.

So even if you (like us) enjoy the idea of leaning on a sexy bike much more than sweating on one around town, there are still plenty of reasons to pop by this hub.
