Available for the first time in town are memorabilia from David Bowie, Pink Floyd and Muhammad Ali. One of the freshest new art spaces in town, Icon Gallery was founded by expat Brits James and Esther Walton. It’s one of few places to get your hands on music inspired original artworks, fine art prints, photographs and sporting memorabilia—not your typical artwork, but cool collectibles all the same. “Many people are passionate about music and sport, and we wanted to celebrate these interests, and icons from both worlds, by offering a unique range of artworks and signed sporting items,” says James.

The range of works is fantastic: cover artwork of Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here album signed by Roger Waters ($9,500), cover artwork as well as original photographs by Celia Philo for David Bowie’s iconic Aladdin Sane album ($1,200-6,000) and a B&W photograph featuring both Muhammad Ali and The Beatles ($6,000).

Currently taking place at the gallery is an ongoing exhibition by Tim Wakefield, whose “soundwave” artworks are derived from tracks by the likes of The Cure, Bryan Ferry, Joy Division, Eric Clapton and George Michael. The colorful, psychedelic images are basically the digital recording patterns of a song formed by the instruments and voices that make up the artist’s recordings, and their enlarged format are quite the sight to behold. “I explored different techniques and sought the advice of other artists and musicians working on the pieces,” says Wakefield.” “I spent a lot of time listening to the lyrics before choosing the colors for the digital waves. Every piece of music requires a diligent approach to color, design and shape.” Each of these prints are signed by both the artist and recording artists, and are priced from $2,200-4,200.
