The buzz: HMV has been replaced by another set of letters. ALT is a 23,000 sq.ft. upmarket department store that breathes new life into The Heeren Shops. The first floor tempts you with trendy shoes, bags, cosmetics and fragrances. Exclusive Asian fashion labels rule the second level, while ALT3 features cult brands and even clothes for your little pooch.
The vibe: Stylish, but unpretentious. A sleek and shiny modern faÇade greets you as you enter. The second floor of ALT—with its black-and-white tiles and hanging mirrors—exudes a boudoir-esque charm which makes pondering over intimates feel so much more risqué.
The goods: A veritable treasure trove. Let’s start with the bags—Tita & Tinos handmade straw totes ($49.95) come complete with signature whimsical stitchings. Go all Hollywood on your peers with one of 18 limited edition Paris Hilton handbags ($109), exclusive to ALT. The shoe department is no less star-studded. Slip on a pair of Steve Maddens ($80-320) or go local with a pair of Foxtrot shoes ($60-200). Shanghainese label Broadcast makes its first step overseas with a colorful collection; T-shirts starting at $79.90 and dresses costing between $159-179. Local designer Nicholas Wong from Saturday by Nicholas also does us proud with a range of understated pieces that are simple and stylish. A two-tone dress from his collection retails at $129. For the face, organic Australian label Nvey Eco makes a mark for itself alongside Lotree, a Korean cosmetics brand that also uses natural ingredients, and a Biotherm Homme bar for tag-a-long boyfriends.
Why you’ll be back: Ever evolving shopping choices at agreeable prices.
