Turn your back on those multinational fashion houses aside in favor of these fresh and fun Singapore designers.

Ong Shunmugam

The Label: Priscilla Shunmugam’s critically acclaimed label, Ong Shunmugam, is inspired by “New Orientalism” and is produced mainly using traditional textile techniques. The majority of items use a muted color palette and include traditional pencil skirts as well as more contemporary and on-trend cropped blouses.

How much: From $349 to $599.

YouYou

The Label: Two-year-old local label YouYou is bold and experimental, featuring lots of shift dresses, flared skirts and big lapels. It’s one of the more high-fashion local brands (with a few trends—think socks and high heels—which may not work too well on non-models) but they also offer plenty of workable pants and jackets.

How much: from $59 to $135.

Noel Caleb

The label: The Noel Caleb brand by designer Eileen Yap has been around for a few years, but only recently opened its first brick-and-mortar store. Yap’s quirky yet wearable new range includes dresses, shirts and jackets with predominantly neutral tones and the odd pop of color. Mostly tailored, form-fitting clothes, they create the kind of outfit that can take you from the office to the bar with just a change of shoes.

How much: From $100 to $400, with a custom couture line at $400 to $1500.

Depression

The Label: Known for its avant-garde style, the Depression line by designers Andrew Loh and Kenny Lim, features edgy monochrome pieces with a distinctly androgynous punk vibe. For adventurous dressers, the range includes platformed men’s shoes, cut-out t-shirts, top hats, and lots of zips and buckles.

How much: From $119 to $349.

Saturday

The Label: Saturday by designer Nic Wong is a forward-thinking and contemporary ready-to-wear label with a focus on draping fabrics and dark color palettes. The Autumn/Winter range features woven knee-length skirts and dresses as well as peplum tops and the odd splash of metallic sheen.

How much: From $129 to $159.

Hansel

The Label: A playful take on womenswear, the Hansel boutique by designer Jo Soh is filled with bright colors and fun fabrics. Collections feature cute themes like “fairy lights” and colorful and monochrome patterns are ever-present. The boutique is also filled with whimsical decorations, like streamers, balloons and giant party poppers to match.

How much: From $139 to $419.

In Good Company

The Label: Since the beginning In Good Company’s defining look has been tailored minimalism with clean hemlines and block colors. Expect tailored pants, crisp shirts and lots of monochromes and primary colors in each collection.
