SINGAPORE RESTAURANT

Oriole Espresso & Brew Bar

This casual coffee establishment is smack-dab in the caffeinated heart of the CBD. Fuss-free, two-hour-roasted New Zealand striploin beef sarnies make up the bulk of the food menu. Accompany the Philly Cheese Steak with peppers, onions, melted cheddar and BBQ sauce in a baguette with Oriole’s signature Piccolo Latte.

The buzz: This is the second coffee establishment from Keith Loh of Oriole fame, smack-dab in the caffeinated heart of the CBD.

The vibe: It’s a laidback and casual joint, with an L-shaped order counter and tables and chairs strategically scattered to make the most of the space. A few booths tucked away at the back make for the comfiest seats in the house.

The food: Fuss-free, two-hour-roasted New Zealand striploin beef sarnies make up the bulk of the food menu. Choose from a Philly Cheese Steak with peppers, onions, melted cheddar and BBQ sauce in a baguette, The Bishop—with cranberries and blue cheese dressing in a ciabatta, and The Egyptian—hazelnut dukkah, feta cheese and pomegranate molasses in a tortilla wrap. Alternatively, there are pasta dishes such as spaghetti with bay prawns and zucchini in tomato sauce, and fusilli chicken with portobello mushroom and parmesan in pesto sauce. For breakfast, brioche French toast with bacon and maple syrup should do the trick.

The drinks: Aside from the usual suspects, they also make a signature piccolo latte, that’s a double ristretto with steamed milk, and “Taish”—milk coffee, a Japanese-style cold brew topped with fresh milk.

Why you’ll be back: To get your caffeine fix in the morn, or to battle that post-lunch food coma.
