Having had great dining experiences at this restaurant in the past, we looked forward to revisiting it. And we were not disappointed. This restaurant is well known for its fabulous brunches but, as our visit confirmed, its à la carte menu is excellent too. We went there on a weekday night. The restaurant was quiet but not empty, and the décor was as elegant as it has always been. With a reservation, we were seated at a lovely table, and drink orders were taken as menus were placed down. Everything sounded good, so we took a while to decide what to have. We settled on starters of warm tiger prawns with bean sprouts, mushrooms and hazelnuts and goat’s cheese wantons on an endive coleslaw. The prawns were perfect—cooked just right—and went well with the crunchy sprouts and nuts. No complaints about the wantons either—they were creamy and tasty—but the slaw lacked flavor. Our main courses arrived shortly after our starter plates were cleared; which marked the attentive service we received all night. The lobster ravioli immediately got our vote: Huge chunks of juicy lobster were buried under sheets of fresh ravioli. Absolutely delicious. On par was the rack of lamb with gorgonzola polenta and mushrooms. The polenta was rich with cheese, and the lamb was done exactly the way we wanted (medium). Had we not been so full, we would have wiped our plates clean. Eating as much as we could while saving some room for dessert, we chose our two sweets. They arrived simultaneously: Passionfruit cheesecake with plum compote, and warm chocolate cake with double cream. Both were top class, and we were glad we hadn’t overindulged on the earlier part of the meal. The citrus flavors of the plum compote and passionfruit topping complemented the delightfully creamy cheesecake to a tee. As for the chocolate cake, we daresay it was one of the best we’ve ever tasted. Obviously high quality chocolate had been used to make the liquid center--a testament to how important fine ingredients are to good cookery. The sponge itself was moist and soft; and the accompanying berries fresh. Good conversation flowed throughout the meal, fuelled by the superb food, discreet service and beautiful surroundings. We’ll come here anytime.
