Run by owner/salad-designer Ca-ryn Lim, this 32-seater located at Hitachi Tower specializes in home-style gourmet salads, using the freshest ingredients and homemade dressings. Their Wicked Strawberry comes with generous amounts of fresh strawberries, roast chicken and blue cheese, topped with balsamic vinaigrette and a hint of lemon juice for that extra zing. They have another outlet at Millenia Walk.

The folks at Shenton Way sure have it good (we should know, our office was there once). Not only are they spoilt for choice when it comes to cheap hawker food, the recent mushrooming of salad bars also means that they have healthier (and better) options to choose from. One of them is The Green Bar, run by owner-salad designer Ca-ryn Lim. This smallish 32-seater located at the somewhat unglam Hitachi Tower is anything but: The place may be a bit crammed, but despite its size it never gets too boisterous (except for lunch time), and comes replete with equally pretty chairs and small chandelier lights to set the mood. And if you’re expecting to pay through your nose for Lim’s well-designed salads, think again. We especially love their Wicked Strawberry ($12.90), which comes with generous amounts of fresh strawberries, roast chicken and blue cheese, topped with balsamic vinaigrette and a hint of lemon juice for that extra zing. We recommend stuffing all these ingredients in one mouthful to maximize its desired effect. One of our earlier favorites, the Tandoor Tandoor ($11.90), still delivers with its equally generous chunks of tandoori chicken, cherry tomatoes, chickpeas and honey yogurt dressing. Also appetizing is the Chili Crab ($10.90), with strips of crab meat, pasta bows and plump raisins. Top off your meal with their daily soup specials for an additional $3.50-6.50 (which rotates between pumpkin, mushroom and crab bisque, just to name a few), and you’d have a pretty satisfying dining experience here. Plus, it’s all very affordable—just perfect!

Have you tried the Tandoor Tandoor? It's one of I-S Magazine's 50 things to eat in Singapore before you die (2010).
