This casual grab and go offering by Everything with Fries is targeted at folks looking for a quick bite. So we weren’t at all surprised by the flood of white tables and chairs, or the self-serve concept. We hopped up to the counter and ordered ourselves an EwF super burger and a char siew burger meal, which comes with fries on the side and a soft drink. Their shakes caught our eye, so we settled on an utterly sinful Nutella version. While waiting to collect our food, we scouted around for a table. Set on the ground floor of Orchard Central, it’s an open space that’s still indoors. Our orders took just a few minutes, but we gladly dug into our curry fries in the meantime. Piping hot from the fryer, the crisp carbs had an intense seasoning that reminded us of barbeque curry Twisties, which is a good thing. Along with the hazelnut shake that was thick, creamy and oh so sweet, it was a promising beginning to our reintroduction to fast food. We dug into our super burger, a classic beef patty with melted cheese, onions and tomato concassé. The patty was super juicy, despite being well-charred, and was sandwiched between a fluffy brown-top bun. Our helping of fries held up amazingly well, even when cool. But the real surprise was definitely the char siew burger. Several slices of tender Japanese-style pork, shredded lettuce and half a soft boiled egg, liberally doused with miso sauce, do make for a satisfying mouthful; although we weren’t huge fans of the combination with the “mooshi” bread that seemed no different from an English muffin. If we weren’t quite so full from all those carbs, we would have ended on a sweet note with their peanut butter slice. We won’t say much about the service, expect mostly youngens manning the fort, but it’s a respectable option if you’ve got a hankering for an affordable muss and fuss-free meal.

Have you tried the Curry Fries? It's one of I-S Magazine's 50 things to eat in Singapore before you die (2010).

Our Policy

Reviews are based on actual visits to the establishments listed, without the knowledge of the restaurants. Reviews are included at the discretion of the editors and are not paid for by the individual restaurants. Opinions expressed here are those of I‑S Magazine and our super‑sneaky team of hungry reviewers. Menus, opening hours and prices change and should be checked. New restaurants are not reviewed within one month of their opening.

Reviews are written from a typical diner’s perspective. A dining experience includes more than just food; ratings are also based on service, atmosphere and fun. Ratings are awarded in accordance with the type of restaurant reviewed, so the city’s best wonton noodle stall could earn a “not to be missed” rating while a fancy French restaurant could be a “forget it.”
