Basilico's decor is suitably swish, swank and stylish

The décor at this restaurant was swish, swank and stylish, so we hoped their food would be equally stunning, but alas, it wasn’t. We headed down for lunch and found the place abuzz with a good mix of patrons. The buffet option was available, but there wasn’t that much to choose from, so we went for the a la carte menu instead. For starters, we chose the tavolo antipasti, a delightful mix of melon, shrimp, Italian ham and cherry tomatoes. The minestrone soup was fresh, and the veggies crunchy. Our mains however, were inconsistent—the pollo cacciatore (spit-roasted chicken with spuds) was extremely salty and too chewy, but the agnello scottadito (lamb with polenta, herbs, sundried tomatoes was simply divine—flavorfully medium rare and generously portioned. Dessert was yet another hit-and-miss affair: The tiramisu was barely average, while the coppa di bosco (hazelnut gelato with strawberry and lemon sorbet) was terrifically refreshing. From the extensive wine list, we tried the felsina chianti, which was decent. While our dining experience here was just average, the atmosphere was nice and inviting, so we might just come back to try more.
