Babette

French-Japanese fusion fare on cool Jalan Besar

Named for the iconic food film Babette’s Feast, this French-Japanese restaurant is an industrial chic space with exposed brick walls and concrete floors. On the menu are rice bowls like chirashi donburi ($19) and duck confit donburi ($28) as well as desserts including matcha lava cake with azuki-drizzled ice cream ($12). To wash it all down, their signature Babette ($16) cocktail is a blend of gin, passion fruit and mint, while the Lorens ($16) is a whiskey and sour plum concoction. A sweet spot for corporate events, booking rates range from $3,000 (for an afternoon event) to $8,000 for a weekend evening.
