Bakeries are all the rage now, and hot out of the oven is Carlton Hotel Singapore’s new café and pâtisserie Tuxedo.

This newbie is helmed by chief baker Andrew Loong who specializes in French pastries. Try the flaky almond croissants ($3.50), specialty bread pain normand ($3.50) or eponymous Tuxedo cake made with Valrhona chocolate ($5.80), great when paired with Italian coffee. For something heartier, the sourdough sandwich with roast beef, spinach and brie ($10.50) or lobster pie ($5) are good options.

They also offer set lunches for only $15.80, available from 11am to 3pm daily (includes a bowl of soup or salad, sandwich, and a cup of coffee or tea.
