What’s the most common mistake people make when attempting food photography?
Don’t try to pack too many items into one picture. They should focus on one thing to accentuate the dish and make them noticeable. Also, shoot them while they are hot and sizzling; don’t wait till the dish is cold and stale.

What should we look out for when taking photos of food?
Light is key. Without good lighting, food will look dull and unappetizing. Think about what angle would suit the dish best? Top down? 45 degree? Before you place your actual dish on the set, get a dummy plate to shoot a few angles till you get it right.

What are the things to avoid when taking photos of food?
A blue color background is a NO. Don’t use overly fancy plates and crockery as it will take the attention away from the food.

What’s the best setting for taking food photos?
Bright lights are good for colorful, fresh-looking dishes while dark backgrounds bring out the sexy mood and strong colors of the food.

How do you play up a dish’s colors?
Add colorful garnishing or props. If a dish has lots of texture and a good shape, don’t cover it with too much sauce.
