Here's a recent DJ Marky mix to whet your d 'n' b appetite

Silva brought d’n’b out from the underground, converting many to his sound that fuses soulful Samba-like melodies with d’n’b’s hard edged beats—a distinctive feature for him as he draws upon Brazilian music for inspiration. “Not many people know this, but d’n’b uses almost every audible frequency range, so when you get a track that is really well put together it has a massive range musically compared to other electronic music. This and the fast (but not gabba fast!) BPM makes it easy to just let your body move to the beat.” One of his most recognizable tunes is the seminal “LK” from his mixed record The Brasilian Job (2001) which has been described by some as one of the most definitive dance music records of the decade. “Being offered the opportunity to do a compilation for Movement (a popular d’n’b night in the UK) was a massive honor for me. I never thought that the record would do as well as it did. It was probably the starting point for everything else I’ve done since then,” he says.

His career has gone from strength to strength with the birth of his own record label, Innerground, in 2003 with studio partner XRS. “We wanted to make sure we had an outlet for all the music we were making. By setting it up, we guaranteed a way to get the DJ Marky sound to people on a regular basis, with no restrictions on anything. It was quite a musically liberating experience,” he explains. Just recently, Silva earned another feather in his cap by clinching the Best International Artist for the third year running at UK’s national Drum and Bass Awards in 2010.

The illustrious jock will be lugging his mixed bag of beats to Singapore for a one-night only party in celebration of Home Club’s fifth anniversary and the DJ is absolutely stoked: “Expect loads of new tunes, some exclusives and the usual energetic DJ Marky experience.”
