Party Reason No. 1: Siloso Beach Party
Welcome the spanking New Year with a bang (of beats) at Asia’s grooviest beach party. Held once again on the sandy grounds of Siloso Beach, this year’s bash will include Siloso Beach’s resident bars and clubs, transforming the 1.2-kilometer stretch of sand and surf into one giant dance arena. The expanded line-up will definitely keep you moving right into 2010. Coastes will feature grooving sounds and chilled-out beats from resident act Audionauts, while at Café del Mar, Balearic tunes from the likes of DJs Dalley, Abery and Joel will be filling the air. Meanwhile if schmoozing with the VIP set is your style, check out Azzura where you can shake it with guest DJs Seb Fontaine and Marshall Jefferson, or get all surfy at Wave House Sentosa with jocks KFC, Dave and Fred E among others. That’s not to mention the showcase event at the main arena where DJ femme fatale DJ Shy and the rest of the LA Kidz will be making waves alongside mash-up master DJ Earworm and local DJ talents Rough, KoFlow and Jensen. And of course, what’s a Siloso Beach Party without the good old foam pool, stilt-walkers, fire-eaters, fireworks and the whole shebang? The passing of time has never been this much fun.
Party Reason No. 2: Gatecrasher Singapore NYE 2009
Brace yourselves for a New Year’s Eve countdown party of epic proportions at the Marina Barrage. UK’s most outstanding and influential dance club, Gatecrasher, drops into town to show you how to party 2009 away “Crasher-style.” This shindig promises to be a striking display of trance and progressive house that’ll keep you shuffling through the break of dawn. Against the dramatic backdrop of the city skyline you’ll get beats churned out by the likes of Blank & Jones, Yoji, Ronald Van Gelderen and Scott Bond, as well as some of our local boys Effen and Godwin P. It’s also a good spot to catch the awesome fireworks from the neighboring party (see reason no. 3).
Party Reason No. 3: Countdown 2010
Here’s your chance to catch all your favorite local celebrities and acts on one stage—and get the bonus of the now-obligatory fireworks show at the stroke of midnight. Expect a stellar line-up of homegrown celebrities and artistes from across the region like Malaysian diva Dayang Nurfaizah, Taiwanese hip hoppers Da Mouth (touted as Asia’s Black Eyed Peas) and Singapore Idol’s Top 13 finalists as well as other local acts like Sleeq, Bloco Singapura, John Molina & Krueger, Jack & Rai, Heregoesnoth!ng, The Great Spy Experiment and DJs Ko Flow, George Leong and Kennerve. It’s a sensationally Singaporean way to step into another year together.
Party Reason No. 4: Clarke Quay NYE Countdown Party 2009
Enter the New Year in style at Clarke Quay’s New Year’s Eve Countdown Party. The hottest party in town this year will be hosted by ringmaster Hossan Leong and his sexy counterpart Angela May. For a frolicking and energetic good time, the band Energy will be blasting out an electrifying live music set, packing in a wallop of pop, rock, soul and alternative tunes. Hotshot jock Shigeki will also be in Clarke Quay to satisfy your yearnings. Known for sending his fans on an incredible musical journey, he delivers a mixed bag of percussive house, soulful vocals and progressive numbers that will make you boogie all night. With a variety of blockbuster entertainment including smoking gypsy dancers, fire-eaters, burlesque dancers and mesmerizing hula performances by Chantal, you might not even notice that midnight has come and gone! The parties and entertainment are so hot you may just need to jump in the river to cool off … or keep the steam going at any of the hot clubs.
Party Reason No. 5: Superstar Blast Off!
Why go to a one-night only countdown party when you can go to one that’s spread over three days across three venues? Yes, the people who brought you the infamous Superstar Sunday parties give you good reason to don your killer party gear (hot pink hot pants, furry shrug and maybe a rainbow flag in tow) to shimmy 2009 away with a series of mega parties. If you’re in for some sizzling and flamboyant testosterone-laced fun, throw yourself into the party with sexy music provided by the “King of Sundays” himself, DJ George Leong, as well as other hot jocks like Madonna’s official DJ and remixer, DJ Johnny Vicious, and DJ Joe Bermudez, who’s remixed for the likes of Britney, Janet and Christina.
Party Reason No. 6: Party On! Singapore!
Downtown East gives you one giant reason in three syllables to head to their gig for New Year’s Eve—Hoobastank. Yes, the post-grunge Cali band will be spending the last few moments of 2009 with us in a special live gig, belting out their hits like “The Reason,” “Crawling In The Dark,” and “The Letter.” If you prefer your music live instead of computerized, then head over here for a bash far from the hubbub of the city.
Party Reason No. 7: Heineken Pres. Lifelike
For those of you who want to know what life will be like in 2010, let Monsieur Laurent Ash (a.k.a. Lifelike) show you. He’ll be doling out doses of the French touch and future disco this New Year’s Eve at hip hutch The Rabbit Hole amid cute animal topiaries, lush environs and cool cocktails. Having remixed for the likes of Moby, Empire of the Sun, Chromeo and La Roux, and hits “Discopolis” and “Sunset” making the rounds in clubs everywhere, this French jock is well positioned to cement himself into dance music history.
Party Reason No. 8: Chronicles of Dance—Zouk New Year’s Eve with Basement Jaxx
No one does New Year’s Eve countdowns better than Zouk. Past celebrations include a laundry list of the who’s who of electronic dance music from the likes of Danny Tenaglia, Dimitri From Paris and Laurent Garnier—who’ve all played John Lennon’s “Imagine” at the stroke of midnight. This year illustrious Brit duo and our personal favorite Basement Jaxx (Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe) have taken up the mantle to lead clubbers into the future. If you’re up for a dose of South London madness from the Grammy award-winning duo, hit up the Jiak Kim Street club come December 31.
