60 Seconds with Misty Rabbit

By Zaki Jufri | published Nov 19, 2009

The DJ alter-ego of Kuskus label boss Mimi Xu, Misty Rabbit has been making dance floors and runways shake and swoon on a regular basis with a mix of electro and post-punk laced with ‘80s synth pop. The party rabbit will be in town for an exclusive gig at hip hutch The White Rabbit this month and we dangle two carrots in front of her for a quick chat.

I got the name Misty Rabbit from …
My love for rabbits and “Misty” is a ‘50s jazz song ... The lot just sounds absurd, just like me.

I wish people would take more notice of ...
My passion for food.

To me music is …
What gets me up every morning.

Fashion, on the other hand is …
What makes me smile.

Describe your sound in three words …
Electronic, eclectic and electric.
My ideal night out is ...
1. Champagne at mine.
2. Dinner at Chez Nenesse, my favorite bistro in Paris.
3. Having all my friends in the DJ booth with me when I play in a club or party ... It could be anywhere.

The nightlife party scene is …
OK. Got its ups and downs ... I am only driven by the music when I go out ... not the “scene.”

The one tune that would take your mind to another dimension
So many ... but today is “Everybody’s Talkin’” by Harry Nilsson because I am up early.

I knew I wanted to indulge in music when ...
I was a seven-year-old playing the piano.

The most important thing I’m contributing musically is …
To share the music I love with others and educate the ones who don’t get it.

Desert island track …
“Club Tropicana” by Wham ... Sunny and keeps me dancing.

My dream gig would be with …
Playing a hardcore techno set in front of 20,000 ravers in the sun.

In another life I would have been ...
A chef
