Is sitting really that bad for you?

Statistics say that the average office worker spends in excess of 80,000 hours (9.13 years) sitting down over their working life. This will not only have negative effects on the musculoskeletal system but also our emotions, leading to stress. With prolonged sitting the body becomes tired and fatigued, causing some muscles to tighten and others to weaken. So it’s crucial that your workstation is correctly set up.

What do you think of the trend for stand-up desks?

In regards to working posture, the best posture is the next posture: even if you sit or stand in the perfect posture for more than twenty minutes, it will result in pain simply from the static loading on the muscles. My suggestion is to make sure your seated workstation is assessed and set up correctly and, if your workplace provides a stand-up desk, use it one or two times per day for 60 minutes.
