The Bowl
What it is: This trendy and youthful style consists of a mid-length cut with a sleek, solid bowl outline that enhances the delicate curvature of the face and neck.
As seen on: Art and creative directors such as local fashion designer Jo Soh from Hansel.
How to style: According to Agnes Neo, “Brushing hair away from the scalp or flipping it back while blow drying helps you to achieve a rounded, voluminous bowl.”
Great for: Those who want to accentuate the features of their face.
Get it done at: Toni&Guy Hairdressing, #03-03/04 The Heeren Shops, 260 Orchard Rd., 6835-4556.

Faux Hawk
What it is: A modern take on the 80s Mohawk, the Faux Hawk is more versatile without compromising on drama. The sides of the hair are cropped (instead of shaved) to the temple area, while the hair mop is kept long so it can be eased into a tapered point.
As seen on: Rockstar musicians. We saw Jared Leto rocking this look at the recent SINGfest.
How to style: Wet your hair slightly if you’re looking for a slick look. Use pomade or something sticky to spike up the Mohawk bit of the hair and comb the sides horizontally with your fingers. The look is best maintained with a regular trim to keep the lengths just right.
Great for: Those looking for a little edge, but not too much. It won’t get you into trouble at work.
Get it done at: Hair Plus Studio, #05-61 Far East Plaza, 14 Scotts Rd., 6235-0600.

Undercut
What it is: A style popular with the goth and punk subcultures, the undercut is a subtle yet edgy way to express your personality. “It’s literally cropping the underneath of a haircut leaving longer hair overtop. What’s also popular now is the undercut bob,” says celebrity hairstylist Andrea Claire.
As seen on: Fashion designers like Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair’s Astrid Olsson.
How to style: “It’s a cut that’s not for the faint-hearted. The undercut requires a deep side parting so I suggest curling the heavy side of the parting and teasing it for volume and a little bit of drama,” says hairstylist Agnes Neo.
Great for: Those whose hair grows out into waves that won’t stay flat against the head.
Get it done at: Essensuals Hairdressing, 241A Victoria St., Bugis Village, 6333-0039.
