What is indicinelive!?
Claudia Low: Lots of really fun stuff! We’ll be performing a spoof of “Nobody” by the Wonder Girls called “No Money for You,” and a really sassy one called “Are You Melayu” to the tune of Saloma’s “Bila Larut Malam.” We are also going to do this song, “Flying on a Death Plane,” which is a spoof of “Leaving on a Jet Plane”. It’s about (can you guess?) budget airlines.
What can we expect?
Oliver Peter: We’ve been doing indicinelive! at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre for a while but we’re picking the best from episodes one and two for our show in Singapore.
CL: There’ll be 20 sketches altogether. We’ll be doing parodies of TV shows, movies and songs. I get to play Bella in Twilight and New Moon.
What will this Bella be like?
CL: [laughs] A really bad actor, probably. Everything about this Bella will be overdramatic. She’ll want to kill herself a lot and throw herself at Edward like, relentlessly. Personally, I would go for Edward in Twilight and Jacob in New Moon because he’s topless.
Whoa! Who gets to play Edward and Jacob?
CL: Jacob will be played by Sani but Edward is played by this girl, Nabihan, who’s just naturally good at playing roles meant for guys.
So, we hear Oliver is playing a Bangladeshi worker in one sketch?
OP: Well, I’m not going to kill the story for you but it’s about how Malaysia sees labor as a product of purchase rather than a skill. We take the piss out of the way Malaysians treat these workers.
Won’t you make fun of Singapore at all?
CL: Well, we do poke fun here and there but we’re not going to go, “Hey! Screw you!” It’s more of us always making fun of ourselves which I think Singaporeans will enjoy.
Laugh out loud at indicinelive! on Aug 27-31, 3pm, 8pm at The Hall @ The Arts House, 1 Old Parliament Lane, 6336-3386. $18-28 from The Arts House Box Office.
