Indonesian artist, Sunaryo's "Somewhere Out There"
Maybe it’s the simple colors (or lack of) and thumbprint image. Whatever it is, this work called “Somewhere Out There” caught our eye with its minimalistic approach, showing at the exhibition called Poetry of Inner Dreams by Indonesian artist Sunaryo. What’s most arresting about the work is its clear preoccupation with identity—embodied by both the thumbprint and the palmprint. Add some scrawly writing (that describe the various aspects of one’s life and interplanetary influences) and few bloody streaks and there you have it—an artistic journey toward the definition of self—contained in a painting. It’s hard for anyone nowadays to know who they truly are—so to find a work that delves into the problem and crisis of idenity—what else could be more relevant? See exhibition listing below for more details.
