When in Little India ...

By Sabrina Lee Mei | published Sep 09, 2010

  • Get a sugar rush with each bite of traditional Indian dessert gulab jamun for $1.50 per piece, available from Little India Arcade (48 Serangoon Rd.)
  • Have your fortune told by Mani, the famous World Cup parrot, for $5 (corner of Upper Dickson Road and Serangoon Road).
  • Take home a really different souvenir: A 3D holographic sculpture of Lord Krishna and Shiva, or the Virgin Mary from Tushiv (123 Serangoon Rd., 6295-5448).
  • Drop by Valentine Music Centre (451 Race Course Rd., 6338-7890) for rare 80s vinyl, new dance imports, the latest DJ gear and an impressive range of record bags. The prices here can be steep (except for some rare finds), so do your research in advance.
  • Visit Singapore’s first eco-friendly retail hub, City Square Mall (180 Kitchener Rd., 6595- 6595), housing retailers including Metro, Giordano, Watsons and Best Denki. Every aspect of the mall, from its lifts to its restrooms, is designed to be a little kinder to the environment.
  • Enjoy a refreshing sip of fresh coconut juice for just $2 (available from vendors along Serangoon Road and in front of Mustafa Centre).
